Volvo anticipates future range "40" with two new concepts

Prototypes 40.1 and 40.2 revealed by Swedish brand offer clues to the next generation of compact Volvo that will begin to emerge in 2017, a range that will have a plug-in hybrid and electric vehicle 100%



Volvo unveiled two models that demonstrate the continued approach of the brand to the premium segment, with the revelation of concepts 40.1 and 40.2 to announce the next generation of compact Nordic manufacturer. As the name implies, these prototypes foresee the lines of the range 40 (currently composed of the V40 and V40 Cross Country), which will now incorporate some of the stylistic codes already implemented models of higher dimensions, such as the optical format with "Thor hammer" that envisages, for example, XC90.

These two concepts 40.1 and 40.2 were also responsible for premiering the new CMA modular platform that will be used in the manufacture of the next generation of compact Volvo, which will appear on the market from 2017. Among these advantages to this platform stands out from then the greater creative freedom offered to designers, but also the way this structure is already prepared to accommodate alternative powertrains, with Volvo to announce already that the next "40" will include in the offer one 100% electric model and also a variant hybrid Plug-in. Analyzing the image of two models revealed by Swedish brand, in the case of 40.1 are in the presence of a compact five-door which apparently points to the future lines of the models Volvo V40 and V40 Cross Country, while the concept 40.2 may mean the introduction also a future crossover in the range, since the seductive lines of this prototype point in the direction of this segment.
